Updated age groups - we are working with our younger delegates to prepare them for future reigns! Boys and girls up to AGE 8 are now included in our Little Miss & Mister contest on Saturday afternoon.

Girls and ladies age 9 and up are placed in our NEW & MORE COMPETITIVE age divisions: Young Miss (9-11 years), Jr. Miss (12-14 years), Teen Miss (15-18 years & in high school), Miss (18-20 years or in college or working), Ms. (20-29 years & any parental or non-married status), Elegant Ms. (30-39 years & any parental or non-married status), Mrs. (21-39 years & currently married), Classic Ms. (40+ years & any parental or marital status)

It is easy to prepare and be honored with the title of Miss Indianapolis in your age division!
How it "works": Contestants participate in preliminary interview and evening gown events. At the pageant finale each delegate will answer an impromptu question on stage during her final evening gown presentation. A ballot will be presented to each judge and the contestant with the highest average placement score will be crowned the Miss Indianapolis Queen for her age division. 1st runner-up will also be recognized. Contestants are scored as follows:

INTERVIEW: Poise/Interview Skills 0-30 points – Overall Appearance 0-20 points

EVENING GOWN: Poise/Presence 0-10 points – Overall Appearance 0-10 points

ON-STAGE QUESTION: While contestants aren't scored, they are evaluated for poise/presence and quality of answer.
In the event of a tie, judges will deliberate and determine final placement of contestants.
INTERVIEW PREPARATION
INTERVIEW should be classy, age-appropriate business attire; and it should reflect the personal style of the contestant. It does NOT have to be a suit, just a look that is professional and well put together.
EVENING GOWN PREPARATION
EVENING GOWN is to be a full-length gown. You can wear an asymmetrical gown, but at least some part of the dress must touch the gown. We do allow for mature dresses in our teen division and above. A Tiny Miss, Young Miss, and Junior Miss should wear a modest gown that includes at least thin straps across the shoulders. Again, we can't stress this enough - make sure the dress does not overpower the girl wearing it!
FINALE
EVERY CONTESTANT will get a chance to introduce herself on stage during the very fun pageant finale opening number. Each delegate will appear on stage in a short, all black cocktail dress. This year's theme is "THIS IS ME - IN MIP!"
Following that opening, the contestants return to the stage and participate in the evening gown presentation and on-stage question. Each will select a number for her on-stage question. The emcee will read the question, and contestant will answer the question and exit the stage. Judges will be given a ballot and shall rank the participants. The contestant with the best average placement score will be crowned the Miss Indianapolis Queen for her age division. In the event of a tie, the judges will deliberate to determine the queen.
Once we start the awards ceremony, the Photogenic, Pageant Spirit, Fan Favorite, and Miss Congeniality awards are handed out. These titles can be "double-crowned" meaning someone who wins one of these four awards could also receive her age division title. After our special awards are distributed, we move to the age division crowning ceremony.
IMPORTANT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
JUNIOR AND SENIOR DIVISIONS & PRELIMINARY COMPETITIONS: During the daytime preliminary competitions (interview & evening gown), Young Miss, Jr. Miss, Teen, and Miss (Junior Division contestants) will compete in evening gown in the morning and interview in the afternoon. Elegant Ms., Ms., Mrs., and Classic Ms. (Senior Division contestants) will compete in interview in the morning and evening gown in the afternoon. A more precise schedule will be provided to contestants at pageant registration. The evening gown preliminary competition for both divisions will be free and open to watch, but once all preliminary on-stage events have finished, the ballroom will be cleared to allow time to set up for the finale.
HAIR & MAKEUP, SPRAY TANNING, ETC: Understand that Miss Indianapolis does not directly endorse one specific individual or group for these services, however they can be helpful for a stressed-out mom or contestant who is not familiar with these areas of preparation. Just make sure to ask lots of questions and make the decision based on your own criteria. Our competition has been, and always will be, about the girl on the INSIDE.

SPECIAL AWARDS: (These awards have NO bearing on the outcome of the age division queen placements)
MISS CONGENIALITY: At the conclusion of the day's preliminary competitions, all contestants will be given the chance to vote for ONE individual who is the most kind, has gone out of her way to make the experience enjoyable, and embodies all the qualities the Miss Indianapolis organization holds dear. Two individuals (one from the Junior division and one from the Senior division) will be announced at the finale and she will receive the MISS CONGENIALITY award.
FAN FAVORITE: The "Fan Favorite" award is based on door admission. Your friends and family will receive a ticket when they pay their admission. They will then place their ticket in your container to “vote” for you. Your fans can even purchase EXTRA VOTES! The person with the most tickets will be named the "Fan Favorite" winner.
BEST PAGEANT SPIRIT: This Miss Indianapolis Staff will be casually observing the conduct of each contestant during the competition process. One individual that exhibits the qualities of selflessness, friendliness, and an overall positive attitude will be awarded the “Best Pageant Spirit”. This does not have any impact on the final outcome of the competition.
PHOTOGENIC: All contestants will have photos taken by our official pageant photographer during registration on Saturday night. A separate panel of judges will select one winner from ALL contestants and she will receive the “Most Photogenic” award.
